10 Jan 2017 resolution: sail more!
I don’t know about you, but I normally don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Mainly because they’re usually for things I don’t really want to do, but know I should. This year I’m changing it up by resolving to do more of what I love. My resolution for 2017: sail more!
Why not focus on what I love and want, instead of what I know I should do? Here’s the thinking behind it. Sailing makes me happy. If I can organize my work and life to enable me to sail more, I’ll be happier. And being happier will help me be better and more productive in all areas of life. It will make me a better friend, a better daughter, a better sister, a better business owner, and yes, a better sailor.
In order to sail more, I’ll need to make some changes. I’ll have to be more efficient with my time to get out on the water more. I’ll need to manage my finances to put aside more funds for sailing and sailing trips. I must improve my physical strength and stamina to sail more frequently. So by focusing on sailing more, I’ll do all the things I know I should do – be more organized, save money, get in shape – but I’ll do them with a concrete payoff. Putting these habits in place will allow me to do more of what makes me happy. “Sail more” is a positive motivator to improve across the board. And these days I think we need all the positive motivation we can get.
So that’s it. A simple mantra for 2017 – sail more. Focus on what makes you happy, and how to do more of it. Here’s to much more happiness and sailing for everyone in the year ahead.
