20 Nov Something new: Women-Led Wednesday!
You’ve heard of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, but what about Women-Led Wednesday? Odds are you haven’t heard of it – yet. Women-Led Wednesday is a new movement, kicking off this year on Wednesday, November 21. The goal is to support and empower female leadership by shining the spotlight on female-led brands.
You might be wondering, do we really need another designated shopping day during the holiday season? Fair question. But as a woman-owned small business, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what it means to be woman-led when women are vastly under-represented as heads of companies. Did you know that in the S&P 500, there are more CEOs named John than there are women of any name? So, highlighting women-led businesses and using our collective purchasing power to propel their success feels important – even necessary.
At 12° West, women are the foundation of our brand. We started making gear for women because we couldn’t find sailing apparel that was both functional and flattering (because, really, is that too much to ask?). Sailing has historically been a male-dominated sport, but that’s changing – women make up the largest group of new adult sailors. We’re here to celebrate women sailors of all kinds, because women united around a common cause are an incredibly powerful force.
That’s why we’re excited to participate in the first year of Women-Led Wednesday, and look forward to it becoming an annual celebration. Please check out the WLW site (womenledwednesday.com) to discover and shop some great women-led brands. You’ll see that we’re in very good company.
In celebration of Women-Led Wednesday, enjoy 10% off your order + free shipping when you use the code WLW at checkout. It’s even good on our end-of-season closeout items like the Sandy Hook Shirt or Oyster Bay Shorts. This offer is good Wednesday 11/21 through Monday 11/26, so don’t delay.
And because we definitely don’t say it enough – thank you, all you wonderful women sailors who believe in our mission and inspire us every day. Thank you for supporting a women-owned small business, and the community of women’s sailing. In this season of thanksgiving, we’re beyond grateful for your ongoing friendship.
Let the holidays begin!
