16 Sep End of sailing season musings
Lately, I’ve been getting that melancholy feeling that comes towards the end of summer and sailing season. Here in the Northeast US, keelboat sailing typically winds down by mid to late October. But you really begin to feel it in September, when the days get alarmingly shorter, the air is crisper, and the light takes on a different quality. Sunsets over water, always beautiful, become even more extravagant.
Still, it’s hard to shake that feeling that the season is soon coming to an end. That’s just more motivation to get out and sail as much as possible while the weather still cooperates. And to make plans to sail someplace warm during the winter!
