24 Jan Scenes from Newport
Starting a sailing-related company means you get to go to some pretty cool places. I was fortunate last year to spend a fair amount of time in one of my favorite places – Newport, RI. Sometimes known as “the yachting capital of America” (or the Northeast US, at least), it’s arguably the quintessential sailing town. Yesterday’s blizzard gave me time to pull together some memories from last year. From the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in May, here are some scenes from Newport.
- Cherry blossoms in May at Perrotti Park
- Morning dock walk at Goat Island Marina
- Repping 12° West at Fort Adams during the VOR stopover
- So cool to see hotshot sailors like Dave Swete of Team Alvimedica & Adam Minoprio of Team Brunel up close
- Closeup of Team Brunel’s distinctive yellow boat
- Team SCA, Team Alimedica & Mapfre before the inport race
- We were literally in the front row for the inport races and race start.
- You can’t go to Newport and not see the mansions – we peeked at the Breakers through the gates
- Newport in May = 100% chance of fog. Classic yachts at anchor on a misty evening
- Dusk falling at Goat Island Marina
